Phenergan (Promethazine), either orally or by suppository, is useful for: Perennial and seasonal allergic rhinitis; Vasomotor rhinitis; Allergic conjunctivitis due to inhalant allergens and foods; Mild, uncomplicated allergic skin manifestations of urticaria and angioedema; Amelioration of allergic reactions to blood or plasma;
Dermographism; Anaphylactic reactions, as adjunctive therapy to epinephrine and other standard measures, after
the acute manifestations have been controlled; Preoperative, postoperative, or obstetric sedation;
Prevention and control of nausea and vomiting associated with certain types of anesthesia and
surgery; Therapy adjunctive to meperidine or other analgesics for control of post-operative pain;
Sedation in both children and adults, as well as relief of apprehension and production of light
sleep from which the patient can be easily aroused; Active and prophylactic treatment of motion sickness and as an antiemetic therapy in postoperative patients.
Phenergan Side Effects: Phenergan (Promethazine) may cause side effects that may go away during treatment, they include drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, blurred or double vision, nausea, or vomiting. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. If you experience yellowing of the eyes/skin, unusual or involuntary muscle twitching or movements, or unusual tendency to burn in the sun. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience fever; mental or mood changes; fast, slow, or irregular heartbeat; confusion; hallucinations; seizure; unusual sweating; muscle spasms; swelling of hands, face, lips, eyes, throat, or tongue; difficulty swallowing or breathing; or hoarseness, you should contact your doctor as soon as possible. An allergic reaction to this medicine is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, or trouble breathing.
