Usage

Mavacamten (Mavacamten) is a prescription medication used to treat symptomatic obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (EXPLORER-HCM). Mavacamten belongs to the group of drugs called first-in-class cardiac myosin inhibitor. Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy is usually caused by abnormal genes (gene mutations) in the heart muscle. It is a disease in which the heart muscle becomes abnormally thick (hypertrophied). As a result, it may block blood flow out of the heart. This condition is called obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Symptoms of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy may include chest pain, fainting, heart murmur or irregular heartbeat, short of breath, etc. Most people with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) don’t have significant health problems. As it progresses, it may lead to some serious health problems or complications such as atrial fibrillation, blood clots, heart failure, stroke, other heart-related complications, and sudden cardiac death.

Side Effects

The most adverse effects of Mavacamten are generally well tolerated. Some adverse effects reported by participants in the group were: dizziness, fatigue, and palpitations. Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are experiencing any serious side effects.
