Dosage

Ingrezza comes in the strength of 40 mg and 80 mg capsules.

Usage

Ingrezza (Valbenazine Tosylate) is a prescription medication used to treat abnormal movements in the face, tongue, or other body parts that cannot be controlled (tardive dyskinesia) and involuntary movements (chorea) associated with Huntington's disease. The active substance in Ingrezza is Valbenazine Tosylate. Valbenazine Tosylate belongs to the class of medications called vesicular monoamine transporter-2 Inhibitors (VMAT2). It inhibits the vesicular monoamine transporter 2 (VMAT2) in neurons. As a result, it decreases the amount of dopamine in the nerve endings in the brain, which helps control body movements. It would be best to know that Ingrezza controls the symptoms of movement disorders but does not cure the conditions.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Ingrezza are sleepiness, nausea, vomiting, arthralgia, akathisia, recurrent fall or balance disorder, and rash.

Follow all directions on your prescription label and read all medication guides or instruction sheets. Depending on the nature of your condition, your doctor may start you on a low dose of Ingrezza and increase it gradually depending on how well you respond to treatment. While taking Ingrezza, do not drive a car or operate dangerous machinery until you know how Ingrezza affects you. Drinking alcohol and taking other drugs that may also cause sleepiness while you are taking Ingrezza may increase any sleepiness caused by Ingrezza.
