Dosage

Vasostrict and its generic Vasopressin are available in the strength of 20 IU/1 ml vials and 20 IU/1 ml/5 ml respectively.

Usage

Vasostrict (Vasopressin) is a prescription medication used to increase blood pressure in adults with vasodilatory shock who remain hypotensive despite fluid resuscitation. It is also used to control the frequent urination or loss of water caused by diabetes insipidus who lack the naturing occurring vasopressin in their bodies. The active ingredient in Vasostrict is Vasopressin. Vasopressin belongs to the class of medication called antidiuretics. It works by causing contraction of vascular and other smooth muscles and it causes the kidneys to reabsorb solute-free water and return it to the circulation from the tubules of the nephron, thus returning the tonicity of the body fluids toward normal.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Vasostrict are injection site pain, redness and swelling, numbness or tingling sensation, low sodium in the blood, tachycardia, and abdominal pain.

Stop using Vasostrict and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Little or no urine;
• Severe reaction at the injection site;
• Stomach pain;
• Unusual bleeding

Warnings and Interactions

Vasostrict and its generic Vasopressin are available as injection vials, and it should be given intramuscularly or into the vein as an intravenous infusion. The injection should be administered by a doctor in a hospital setting. Drink enough water after every injection is received. Use the medication according to your doctor’s instructions. Vasostrict is usually given as needed to help control your condition. The time interval between doses will depend on how your body responds to the medication. • Asthma;
• Epilepsy or seizure disorder;
• Heart problems including coronary artery disease and heart failure;
• Kidney problems;
• Liver problems;
• Migraine or severe headache

Tell your doctor about all the medications you use, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. It is unknown if Vasopressin is harmful during pregnancy. It is unknown if Vasopressin passes into breast milk.
