Biktarvy (Bictegrav/Emtricit/Tenofov Alafenamide Hemifumarate) is a combination medication of bictegravir, emtricitabine, and tenofovir. It is an antiviral medication used to prevent HIV from multiplying in the body. Biktarvy is not a cure for HIV or AIDS, but will treat symptoms and slow its progress in adults and children who weigh at least 55 pounds.

Common side effects may include nausea and headache. The serious side effects may include:

• Impotence
• Kidney problems
• Lactic acidosis
• Liver problems
• Menstrual changes
• Problems with balance or eye movement
• Signs of allergic reaction:
o Difficulty breathing
o Hives
o Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat
• Signs of a new infection
• Swelling in your neck
• Trouble speaking or swallowing
• Weakness or prickly feeling

You should not use Biktarvy if you are allergic to Bictegrav/Emtricit/Tenofov Alafenamide Hemifumarate or other antiviral medicines. Precautions

Biktarvy is a complete regimen and is not meant to be used with other antiviral medications. You can take it with or without food. If you take a multivitamin or other mineral supplement that contains iron or calcium, take it with food at the same time as Biktarvy. Store in the original container away from moisture, heat, and light. Keep the lid tightly closed when not in use.

There may be an interaction between Biktarvy and other medications including dofetilide or rifampin. Talk to your doctor before you use other medications while on Biktarvy. To ensure this medication is right for you, be sure to tell your doctor if any of the following conditions apply to you:

• Hepatitis B
• Kidney disease
• Liver disease

Answer: Yes. If you have ever had hepatitis B, the virus can become active or get worse in the months after stopping Biktarvy. You’ll want to have frequent liver function tests while using this medication and for several months after your last dose.

2. Can I take antacids while on Biktarvy?
Answer: Certain antacids, laxatives, or buffered medicines can decrease Biktarvy’s effectiveness when taken at the same time. Take your dose on an empty stomach 2 hours before you take any other medicines, including antacids.

3. Can I get lactic acidosis while on Biktarvy?
Answer: While rare, it can happen that Biktarvy causes lactic acidosis (too much lactic acid). If you notice symptoms of weakness, tiredness, unusual muscle pain, shortness of breath, fast breathing, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, cold or blue hands and feet, dizziness, or fast/abnormal heartbeats, consult your doctor right away.
