Usage

Orilissa (Elagolix Sodium) is used to treat moderate to severe pain caused by endometriosis (when the tissue that forms the lining of the uterus grows in other parts of the body outside of the uterus). Orilissa improves the symptoms of endometriosis after one month of therapy. It improves symptoms such as pain during periods, pain between periods, heavy bleeding during periods, pain during sex, pain or discomfort in the belly or pelvic region.

Orilissa may improves your quality of life by reducing your pain. It may also improve emotional well-being and helps to get a control over the symptoms. This medication improves endometriosis by lowering the amount of estrogen (responsible for thickening of tissues lining the uterus) in your body. The safety and efficacy of Orilissa are not known in children under 18 years old.

Side Effects and Precautions

Stop using the medication and get medical care if you have an allergic reaction. Signs of an allergic reaction may include difficulty breathing, hives (rash on your body), swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat—If you experience any of these symptoms, please call 911 or seek emergency medical care at the nearest emergency room (ER).

The common side effects of Orilissa may include altered mood, anxiety, depression, headache, hot flushes, insomnia, joint pain, missed menstrual periods, mood swings, and nausea. Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Mood or behavior changes (anxiety, depession, suicidal thoughts);

You should not use Orilissa if you are allergic to Elagolix or if you:

Before you start taking Orilissa, tell your doctor if you have:
• A broken bone;
• Depression or a mood disorder;
• Low bone mineral density;
• Suicidal thoughts

This medication can lower your estrogen levels, which may cause osteoporosis. Birth control pills can make Elagolix less effective. Use a condom or diaphragm with spermicide to prevent pregnancy while using this medication and for at least one week after your last dose. Tell your doctor about all the medications you take including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Elagolix and other medications especially birth control pills, implants or injections. Not all possible drug interactions are listed here.
