Usage

Advocate (Imidacloprid/Moxidectin) is a spot-on prescription insecticide used to treat and prevent flea infestation in cats and dogs. It is also used to treat and prevent a range of parasites in dogs and cats, including intestinal worms, skin diseases, and biting lice infestations in cats and dogs. The active ingredients in Advocate liquid are Imidacloprid and Moxidectin. Advocate kills not only adult roundworms and hookworms but also immature adult and larval stages of these worms, breaking the lifecycle. In addition, Imidacloprid interferes with certain receptors (nicotinergic acetylcholine receptors) in lice and fleas' nervous systems, resulting in their subsequent paralysis and death. Moxidectin causes paralysis and death of parasites by interfering with the way signals are passed between nerve cells in the parasites' nervous system.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Advocate are local skin irritation, salivation and vomiting if ingested by the cat or dog, increased itching, hair loss, greasy fur, and redness at the application site.

Stop using Advocate and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Behavioral changes such as agitation, excessive grooming, hiding, pacing, and spinning may occur in cats;
• Decreased appetite may be noticed;
• Depression, incoordination, panting, and tremors may be noticed in dogs;

Warnings and Interactions

Advocate is a prescription-only medication that can only be obtained from your veterinary doctor. Advocate has different strengths depending on whether it is for use on cats or dogs. Advocate is applied topically to the skin on the back of the neck, usually once a month for four months, or used according to your doctor's prescription. The dose of Advocate required will depend on your pet's weight and comes in several strengths so that any sized animal can be given an accurate dose. This medication can be given safely alongside most veterinary medicines. Inform your vet doctor of other topical or tablet medications you are using for your pet. During treatment with an Advocate product, no other antiparasitic macrocyclic lactone should be administered without your doctor's approval. Wash hands thoroughly after use. Inform your doctor if you notice continuous salivation and vomiting in your pet.

Before you start using Advocate, inform your doctor about your pets' medical history, especially if your pets have:
• Dogs or cats weighing less than 1kg;
• Dogs with class 4 heartworms disease;
• Kittens under nine weeks of age or puppies under seven weeks of age
