Product Details

Zirgan (Ganciclovir) is an ophthalmic antiviral drug. It is used to slow the growth and spread of the cytomegalovirus (CMV) in the eye, and is also used in a to treat eye ulcers caused by the herpes simplex virus. Zirgan is not a cure for CMV or herpes simplex. Zirgan works by interfering with the DNA of the virus cells, stopping them from replicating. The virus remains in the body between infections, but Zirgan can shorten the time of infections and lower the risk of complications. This medication is not effective in treatment of symptoms in any other part of the body. This medication treats only herpes eye infections. It will not work for other types of eye infections, such as those caused by bacteria. Unnecessary use or misuse of any anti-infective drug can lead to its decreased effectiveness.

Anaphylactic allergic reaction can happen in some cases. You must seek emergency medical attention if you experience the following signs: difficulty breathing, hives, rash, swelling of the face, tongue, lips, or throat.
