Product Details

Tobi Podhaler is an antibiotic medication that’s inhaled using a nebulizer. It’s used to treat patients who are at least 6 years of age or older who have cystic fibrosis or other lung infections.

The common side effects of Tobi Podhaler includes: cough, sore throat, hoarse voice, noisy breathing, worsening of lung problems or cystic fibrosis, coughing up mucus or blood, altered sense of taste, fever, headache, and rash.

The more serious side effects may include:

• Hearing problems
• Hoarse voice
• Kidney problems
• Muscle weakness
• New or worsening symptoms
• Ringing in the ears
• Severe dizziness, vertigo, balance problems
• Signs of allergic reaction
• Weak or shallow breathing

You should not take Tobi Podhaler if you are allergic to Tobramycin, or other antibiotics. Before you start taking Tobi Podhaler, talk to your doctor about your medical history and about all the medications you currently take including OTC and herbal medications.

Taking this medication while pregnant can cause irreversible hearing damage to your baby. Do not use while pregnant or nursing. If you breastfeed while on this medication, watch your baby for signs of diarrhea, blood in the stools, or a fungal diaper rash with white patchy skin.

Precautions

Be sure to take Tobi Podhaler exactly as your doctor describes for you. Follow all instructions that come with your medication.

Tobi Podhaler is inhaled into the lungs using a nebulizer or an inhaler. Do not swallow this medication by mouth. Use the inhalation device prescribed by your doctor. Be sure to take your dose at regular intervals, such as 12 hours apart, but not less than 6 hours apart.

This treatment is a cycle of 28 days on and 28 days off. Continue using the medication, even if you feel better.

Use any other inhaled medicines or perform chest physiotherapy before using your Tobi Podhaler.

Store the ampules in the refrigerator between 36 and 46 degrees Fahrenheit. When a refrigerator is not available, they can be stored in a cool room temperature for up to 28 days. Protect them from heat and light. Use only one capsule at a time and store the rest in their blister pack until use.

There can be interactions between Tobi Podhaler and other medications. These include: urea, diuretics, and any medication that may harm your kidneys, hearing, or nervous system. Talk to your doctor before you use other medications while on Tobi Podhaler.

To ensure this medication is right for you, be sure to tell your doctor if any of the following conditions apply to you:

• Breathing problems
• Dizzy spells
• Hearing problems
• Kidney disease
• Neuromuscular disease

This medication is not approved for anyone younger than 6 years old.
