Nexavar Information

Drug name: Nexavar
Generic name: Sorafenib
Use: Treatment for liver and kidney cancer

Nexavar is a drug primarily for the treatment of kidney cancer and advanced liver cancer. It works by interfering with the growth and spread of cancer cells in the body. Nexavar is prescribed to liver cancer patients after determining that the cancer cannot be removed by surgery. It is also prescribed to patients with advanced kidney cancer and whose cancer has spread to other parts of the body. Nexavar is mostly used when no other treatments or therapies have been successfully.

Nexavar Side Effects

While on treatment with Nexavar you may experience some side effects, if they become persistent or bothersome contact your doctor. The following are common side effects you may experience:

• Abdominal pain, acne
• Body pains, bone pain, constipation, cough
• Diarrhea, difficulty breathing, difficulty swallowing, dry skin
• Fatigue, flu-like symptoms
• Hair loss, headaches
• Inflammation or sores of the mouth and tongue
• Loss of appetite, nausea
• Persistent runny nose, rash or itchiness
• Tingling sensation in hands or feet
• Vomiting, weight loss

You may experience side effects other that those listed seek medical attention. If you experience ANY of the following reaction seek immediate medical attention:

• Abnormal heartbeat
• Sign of a serious allergic reaction
• Symptoms of a heart attack

Nexavar Safety in Pregnancy and Children

Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant before beginning any course of medication. Nexavar should not be used during pregnancy unless your doctor has determined the benefits outweigh the risks. Nexavar is not known to pass through breast milk but breast feeding should be avoided while taking this medication. The safety and effectiveness on children has not been determined.
