Usage

Arixtra (Fondaparinux Sodium) is a prescription anticoagulant used to prevent venous thromboembolic events (a condition in which there is a problem due to the formation of blood clots in the veins) in adults who are having major surgery such as a hip or knee surgery and abdominal surgery. It is also used to prevent blood clots from forming in patients who are recovering from orthopaedic or abdominal surgery. The active ingredient in Arixtra is Fondaparinux Sodium. Fondaparinux Sodium belongs to the class of medication called anticoagulants, factor Xa Inhibitors. It works by blocking certain natural substances (factor Xa) in the blood that cause clotting.

The common side effects of Arixtra are injection site pain or reaction, nausea, diarrhoea, dizziness, headache and swelling of the face or leg.

Stop using Arixtra and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Allergic reactions such as shortness of breath, wheezing or difficulty breathing;
• Chest pain or difficulty in breathing;
• Pain or swelling in the legs;
• Recurrent urinary tract infection;
• Severe headache that doesn’t go away

Warnings and Interactions
