Chemical Name: Methotrexate
|
Metoject Information: Metoject is a pre-filled methotrexate syringe which is used to treat severe Rheumatoid Arthritis. Metoject (Methotrexate) helps to stop and prevent the inflammation and the resulting damage by slowing down the effects of an over stimulated immune system and thus making it easier to control the disease activity. Metoject (Methotrexate) should be administered by a health professional. The recommended initial dose is 7.5 mg of methotrexate once weekly, administered either subcutaneously, intramuscularly or intravenously. Depending on the individual activity of the disease and tolerability by the patient, the dose may be increased gradually by 2.5 mg per week. A weekly dose of 25 mg should not be exceeded. However, doses exceeding 20 mg/week can be associated with significant increase in toxicity, especially bone marrow suppression. Response to treatment can be expected after approximately 4 -8 weeks. Upon achieving the therapeutically desired result, the dose should be reduced gradually to the lowest possible effective maintenance dose.
Metoject Side Effects: Metoject (Methotrexate) may cause undesirable effects such as suppression of the haematopoetic system and gastrointestinal disorders. Some gastrointestinal effects which are very common include stomatitis, dyspepsia, nausea, and reduced appetite. You may also experience oral ulcers and diarrhea. You may also experience headaches, dizziness, and tiredness. At the administration site, you may have local skin reactions (burning sensation, redness) and very rarely you may experience an allergic reaction, fever, infection, or local damage.
The generic alternative is not manufactured by the company that makes the brand product.
