Retrovir (Zidovudine, also known as Zidovir) is an anti-viral medication that is able to prevent the spread of HIV cells within the body. If HIV is left without any treatment are medications to control the virus, it can escalate into the AIDS virus. This medication is also given during pregnancies to help stop a woman that is infected with the HIV virus, from passing HIV to their unborn child.

Retrovir Side Effects:
As with all medications, there may be a chance that you experience some side effects. These side effects are very rare, and it is not a regular occurrence for them to have been reported whilst a person is this medication. It is however important that you recognize the signs and the symptoms of a side effect and also you should be aware of an allergic reaction once you have taken this medication.
Liver damage, lactic acidosis, easy bruising, fever or signs of a new infection are all known side effects of this medication. If you do experience any of these side effects, you should stop taking Retrovir and consult your doctor for further guidance on your treatment.
Retrovir (Zidovudine) should be taken exactly as directed by your physician. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is within 2 hours of your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. It is important not to miss any doses of this medicine. Do NOT take 2 doses at once. If you have overdoses, contact your local poison control center or emergeny room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, tiredness, confustion, and seizures. Retrovir (Zidovudine) should be stored at room temperature in a closed container, away from heat and light.
Avoid alcohol while taking Retrovir (Zidovudine), it may increase the risk of damage to the liver and/or pancreas.
