Elestat Information:

Elestat (Epinastine) is used for the treatment of the symptoms of seasonal allergic conjunctivitis. The typical shelf life of Elestat is two years, after opening though it is only 4 weeks (as with any other eye drops). ELESTAT is a fast-acting, long-lasting prescription eye drop that feels soothing to the eyes upon instillation. Seasonal Allergies: Seasonal allergies are usually caused by ragweed or pollen, which comes from grasses, trees, and flowering plants. The symptoms are worse when the amount of pollen in the air (called the pollen count) is high. This usually happens during the spring (grasses, trees), late summer, and autumn months (ragweed). Perennial Allergies: Perennial allergies occur year-round because the allergens that cause the symptoms are always present. Some common household allergens that cause perennial eye allergies include dust mites, mold, pet hair, and pet dander.

Elestat Side Effects:

The recommended dose for Elestat in adults is one drop instilled in each affected eye twice daily, during the symptomatic period. There is no experience with the use of Elestat for more than 8 weeks. The contents of the bottle remain sterile until the original closure is broken by twisting the cap to pierce the dropper tip. To avoid contamination do not touch any surface with the dropper tip. If more than one topical ophthalmic medicinal product is being used, the medicinal products should be administered at least 10 minutes apart. Elderly patients: Elestat has not been studied in elderly patients. Post-marketing safety data from the tablet formulation of epinastine hydrochloride (up to 20 mg once daily) indicates that there are no particular safety issues for elderly patients compared with adult patients. As such, no dosage adjustment is considered to be necessary. Children and Adolescents: Elestat may be used in adolescents (12 years of age and older) at the same dosage as in adults.
