Rowasa Enema Information

Rowasa Enema Details (Brand and Generic)

CanadaPharmacyOnline offers Rowasa Enema and other medications for disorders of the digestive tract at huge savings. We currently have the brand Rowasa Enema from Canada manufactured by Ferring (Pentasa Enema) and Aptalis Pharma (Salofalk Enema). The generic version of Rowasa Enema is not available.

Dosage

Rowasa Enema (7 units per box) is available in the strength of 1 gm/100 ml, 2 gm/60 ml, 4 gm/100 ml and 4 gm/60 ml.

Usage

Rowasa Enema (Mesalamine/5-aminosalicylic acid) is used to treat certain types of bowel disease (distal ulcerative colitis, proctosigmoiditis, proctitis). It does not cure these conditions, but it may relieve mild-to-moderate pain and decrease the frequency of diarrhea/bloody stools caused by irritation/swelling in the colon/rectum. Mesalamine is an aminosalicylate anti-inflammatory drug. It is believed to work by blocking the production of certain natural chemicals that may cause pain and swelling. Use this medication rectally once daily at bedtime, or as directed by your doctor. This medication works best if you have a bowel movement before using it.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common Rowasa Enema side effects may include rectal pain; pain while inserting the bottle tip; gas and joint/leg pain. Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Chest pain;
• Dark urine;
• Fever;
• Severe stomach/abdominal pain (especially if spreading to the back);
• Signs of kidney problems;
• Shortness of breath;
• Severe/prolonged headache;
• Worsening stomach pain/cramping;
• Worsening bloody diarrhea;
• Yellowing eyes/skin.

Warnings and Interactions

You should not use Rowasa if you are allergic to Rowasa, aspirin, sulfasalazine, or salicylates (such as Disalcid, Doans Pills, Dolobid, Kaopectate, Nuprin Backache, Pepto-Bismol, Tricosal, Trilisate, and others).

Tell your doctor if you have ever had:
• A skin condition such as eczema;
• A kidney stone or kidney disease;
• Asthma or sulfite allergy;
• Inflammation of the sac around the heart (pericarditis);
• Liver disease;
• Pancreas problems (pancreatitis)

Tell your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist about all the medicines you take, including drugs prescribed by other doctors, vitamins, minerals, natural supplements, or alternative medicines. Rowasa can harm your kidneys, especially if you also use certain medicines for infections, cancer, osteoporosis, organ transplant rejection, bowel disorders, high blood pressure, or pain or arthritis (including Advil, Motrin, and Aleve). Tell your doctor about all your other medicines, especially: azathioprine or 6-mercaptopurine. During pregnancy, this medication should be used only when clearly needed. If you are breastfeeding, tell your doctor if you notice diarrhea in the nursing baby. This medication may make you more sensitive to the sun, especially if you have skin problems. Limit your time in the sun. Use sunscreen and wear protective clothing when outdoors. Tell your doctor right away if you get sunburned or have skin blisters/redness. This medication is similar to aspirin. Children and teenagers should not take aspirin or aspirin-related medications (such as salicylates) if they have chickenpox, flu, or any undiagnosed illness, or if they have just been given a live virus vaccine (such as varicella vaccine), without first consulting a doctor about Reye's syndrome, a rare but serious illness.
