Ezetrol (Ezetimibe) is a prescription medication used along with a low-fat diet and exercise to help lower cholesterol in the blood. It may be used with other drugs, such as statins or fibrates. The active ingredient in Ezetrol is Ezetimibe. Ezetimibe belongs to the group of medications called Lipid-lowering agents (2-Azetidinones). It works by partially blocking the absorption of cholesterol in the small intestine. As a result, less cholesterol enters your blood from food and bile, so the liver has to take more cholesterol out of the blood to make more bile, which is needed for digestion. Reducing cholesterol helps prevent strokes and heart attacks.
