Anturane (Sulfinpyrazone) is a prescription medication used to commonly prescribed to treat the effects of gout arthritis. Gout is caused by elevated blood levels of uric acid (hyperuricemia). The active ingredient in Anturane is Sulfinpyrazone. Sulfinpyrazone belongs to the class of medication called Sulfonamides. It works by reducing the amount of uric acid present within the affected persons' bodies. Lowering the amount of uric acid in your blood prevents gout attacks. By this mechanism of action, Anturane forces the uric acid out of your body and helps to prevent attacks but does not treat an attack once it has started.
