Chemical Name: Pancreatic Enzymes (Lipase, Protease, Amylase)
|
Ultrase Information: Ultrase capsules are designed to prevent inactivation by gastric acid thereby resulting in the delivery of predictable, high levels of biologically active enzymes into the duodenum
For patients with partial or complete exocrine pancreatic insufficiency such as: cystic fibrosis, chronic pancreatitis, postpancreatectomy, postgastrointestinal bypass surgery (e.g., Billroth II gastroenterostomy), and ductal obstruction from neoplasm (e.g., of the pancreas or common bile duct). Ultrase capsules are effective in controlling steatorrhea.
Ultrase Side Effects: Stop taking Ultrase and seek emergency medical attention if you experience an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives).
Other, less serious side effects may also occur. Continue to take Ultrase and notify your doctor if you experience
• nausea or vomiting;
• abdominal discomfort, pain, or cramping;
• diarrhea or constipation;
• greasy stools;
• perianal irritation;
• flatulence; or
• irritation to the skin or lungs after coming in contact with capsule contents.
Ultrase Directions: The smallest effective dose should be used. Dosage should be adjusted according to the severity of the exocrine pancreatic insufficiency. Begin therapy with 1 or 2 capsules with meals or snacks and adjust dosage according to symptoms. The number of capsules or capsule strength given with meals and/or snacks should be estimated by assessing which dose minimizes steatorrhea and maintains good nutritional status. Follow as directed by your Doctor.
