Usage

Rimadyl (Carprofen) is a prescription medication used to treat dogs' osteoarthritis and other joint anomalies. The active ingredient in Rimadyl is Carprofen. Carprofen belongs to a class of medications called NSAIDs, or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. NSAIDs block the production of natural chemicals that trigger inflammation. Carprofen reduces your dog's pain by reducing inflammation. The usual dose of Rimadyl in dogs is 1mg/pound twice a day. The dog should be examined and blood work performed prior to the beginning of therapy. Kidney and liver function should be monitored during treatment.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Rimadyl on dogs are vomiting, diarrhoea and ulceration (intestinal bleeding).

Stop using Rimadyl for your dog and contact your veterinary doctor right away if your dog has any of the serious side effects such as:

Also, tell your doctor if your dog is pregnant. Too much of this medication during pregnancy may cause ulceration or bleeding in your dog.
