ASMANEX TWISTHALER is for the maintenance treatment of asthma for patients 12 years of age and older ASMANEX TWISTHALER is also for asthma patients who are taking oral steroids where it may reduce or eliminate the need for oral steroids ASMANEX TWISTHALER will NOT relieve sudden asthma symptoms

When used regularly, mometasone helps to prevent the wheezing and shortness of breath that can occur with asthma. This medication is in a class of drugs known as corticosteroids. It works directly in the lungs to make breathing easier by reducing the swelling of the airways.

This medication does not work immediately. Therefore, it should not be used to relieve an acute asthma attack. If an asthma attack occurs, use your quick-relief inhaler (e.g., albuterol, salbutamol) as prescribed.

Asmanex Side Effects:

The most common side effects with ASMANEX TWISTHALER include headache, allergic rhinitis, sore throat, and upper respiratory infection. Dry or irritated throat, hoarseness or coughing may occur as your body adjusts to this drug. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly.

This medication is inhaled through the mouth, usually once a day in the evening, or as directed by your doctor. Dosage is based on your medical condition and response to therapy. If two inhalations/puffs are prescribed, wait at least one minute between them. If you are using other inhalers at the same time, wait several minutes between the use of each medication, and use this drug (the corticosteroid) last. To prevent dry mouth, hoarseness and oral yeast infections, gargle and rinse your mouth after each use. Do not swallow the rinse solution.

Use this medication regularly in order to get the most benefit from it. This medication works best if used regularly at even intervals. Remember to use it at the same time(s) each day. Do not increase your dose, use this more frequently or stop using this medication without first consulting your doctor.
