Canasa Suppositories Information: Canasa (Mesalamine) is used to treat ulcerative colitis, proctitis, and proctosigmoiditis. Canasa (Mesalamine) is classified as an anti-inflammatory drug and works by affecting a substance in the body that causes inflammation, tissue damage, and diarrhea. Canasa (Mesalamine) is used as a rectal suppository and thus is able to work directly on the area involved and have been shown to be the most rapid way to treat ulcerative proctitis. Canasa (Mesalamine) can stop rectal bleeding within one week of therapy; reduce stool frequency, diarrhea and tenesmus within two weeks.
Canasa Suppositories Side Effects: Canasa (Mesalamine) does not have any major side effects. Studies have shown that Canasa (Mesalamine) suppositories usually have a side effect profile similar to a placebo. Some not so serious side effects that you may experience include: mild nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps, diarrhea, gas, rectal pain, constipation, fever, sore throat, headache, tiredness, and skin rash.
