Ciloxan Information

Ciloxan Details (Brand and Generic)

CanadaPharmacyOnline.com currently offers the brand Ciloxan from Canada, manufactured by Novartis and from Turkey by Alcon. The generic Ciprofloxacin Eye Drop is available from Canada by a different manufacturer. Our customers may also purchase other Anti-Infective/Antibiotic Medications such as Vigamox and Cipro from Canada.

Dosage

Ciloxan is available in the strength of 0.3 %/3.5 gm eye ointment and 0.3 %/5 ml eye drops. The generic Ciprofloxacin is available in the strength of 0.3 %/5 ml eye drops only.

Usage

Ciloxan (Ciprofloxacin) is a prescription ophthalmic medicine used to treat bacterial infections of the eyes, such as conjunctivitis and corneal ulcers (keratitis). The active ingredient in Ciloxan eye drops is Ciprofloxacin. Ciprofloxacin belongs to a group of medicine called fluoroquinolones antibiotics (ophthalmic). It works by stopping the growth of bacteria that may have affected the eyes. However, it would be best to know that ciprofloxacin eye drops will not treat a viral or fungal infection of the eye.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Ciloxan are conjunctival redness, eye itching, stinging sensation in the eyes, feeling of foreign bodies in the eyes, and unpleasant tastes after use.

Stop using Ciloxan and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Appearance of a skin rash;
• Double vision;
• Corneal staining;
• Continuous tearing or lacrimation;
• Decrease in vision or blurry vision;
• Eye discomfort;
• Ocular discomfort;
• Photophobia or increased sensitivity to light;
• Severe burning or eye irritation

Warnings and Interactions

Before taking this medication, you should tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to Ciloxan or other quinolones eyedrops. Children below one year should not use this eye drop. You should tell your doctor if you've used any similar eye drop/ointment in the past. Do not touch the dropper tip on any surface, as this may contaminate the solution. It would be best to discontinue these eye drops/ointment immediately if you notice any rash on your body.

You should follow the guide below on how to apply this eye drop/ointment:
• Tilt your head slightly and pull down your lower eyelid to create a small pocket;
• Hold the dropper above the eye with the tip down. Look up and away from the dropper and squeeze out a drop;
• Close your eyes for 2 or 3 minutes with your head tipped down, without blinking or squinting;
• Use only the number of drops your doctor has prescribed. If you use more than one drop, wait about 5 minutes between drops;
• Wait 10 minutes before using any other eye drops your doctor has prescribed.

You should follow all directions on your prescription label. Do not use Ciloxan eye drops larger than recommended. While treating a corneal ulcer, you may notice a whitish buildup in your eye. This is a sign that the medication is working and is not a harmful effect. This buildup should clear within a few days or weeks of treatment. You should remove your contact lens before applying this eye drop.

Before you start using Ciloxan eye drop/ointment, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have:
• Hypersensitive to ciprofloxacin;
• Neonates with ophthalmia neonatorum of gonococcal or chlamydial origin;

Tell your doctor about all the medications you use, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. You should inform your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. It is unknown whether this medicine will harm an unborn baby. Ciprofloxacin ophthalmic passes into breast milk and should be used with caution by nursing mothers. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding while using Ciloxan eye ointment. There may be a drug interaction between Ciloxan and other drugs such as warfarin, cyclosporin, theophylline, steroid, and other eye medication.
