Zarontin Information

Zarontin Details (Brand and Generic)

CanadaPharmacyOnline.com offers the brand Zarontin from Canada by Erfa and from New Zealand & the United Kingdom by Pfizer. The generic version is not available.

Dosage

Zarontin is available in the strength of 250 mg tablets and 50 mg/ml/500 ml and 250 mg/5 ml/200 ml syrup.

Usage

Zarontin (Ethosuximide) is used alone or with other medications to prevent and control absence or petit mal seizures in adults and children. Ethosuximide belongs to the class of medications called anticonvulsants. This medication works by controlling the abnormal electrical activity in the brain that occurs during a seizure.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Zarontin may include diarrhea, dizziness, fatigue, headache, hiccups, loss of appetite, nausea, stomach pain, swelling in your tongue or gums, trouble concentrating, and weight loss.

Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Chills, flu symptoms, fever, sore throat or feeling weak;
• Confusion, extreme fear, hallucinations or unusual thoughts or behavior;
• Lupus-like syndrome (joint pain or swelling with fever, etc);
• Severe skin reaction (fever, sore throat, swelling face or tongue, burning eyes, etc);
• Signs of inflammation in your body (swollen glands, flu symptoms, easy bruising or bleeding, etc)

Warnings and Interactions

Do not use Zarontin if you are allergic to Ethosuximide or to other seizure medications. Before you start taking Zarontin, tell your doctor about your medical history especially if you have:
• A history of depression, mood problems or suicidal thoughts or actions;

• Liver disease;
• Lupus

Zarontin may impair your thinking and reactions. Be careful if you drive or do any activity that requires you to be alert. Avoid drinking alcohol, as it can cause side effects. You should avoid being near people who are sick or have infections. Tell your doctor at once if you develop signs of an infection. Tell your doctor about all the medications you take including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Ethosuximide and other medications. If you take Zarontin with other medications that make you dizzy or sleepy can worsen this effect. Tell your doctor before you take a sleeping pill, narcotic pain medication, muscle relaxer, or medication for anxiety, depression, or seizures. Do not start or stop taking this medication without your doctor's advice, and inform your doctor right away if you become pregnant.
