Usage

Triphasil (Levonorgestrel/Ethinyl Estradiol) is a prescription medication used to prevent ovulation and pregnancy from occurring among women of reproductive age. The active ingredient in Triphasil is Levonorgestrel and Ethinyl Estradiol. Triphasil belongs to the class of medication called Progestin/estrogen contraceptives. It works by causing changes in cervical mucus and uterine lining, making it harder for sperm to reach the uterus and harder for a fertilized egg to attach to the uterus.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Triphasil are nausea, vomiting, mood swing, headache, breast tenderness, breast swelling, amenorrhea, changes in appetite and weight changes.

Stop using Triphasil and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Abnormal vaginal discharge;
• Bleeding between periods;

Warnings and Interactions

It would be best to know that a pack of Triphasil contains 21 active tablets: 6 tablets are brown, 5 tablets are white, and 10 tablets are yellow in colour; and 7 inactive tablets which are red. Each blister strip of Triphasil provides a month of tablets. It is important that you take the tablets in the correct order. Following the arrows on the blister strip will assist you. Take one active pill (with hormones) once daily for 21 days in a row. It would be best to start taking Triphasil tablet on the first day of your menstruation. Triphasil is a hormonal contraceptive, and it doesn’t protect you from contracting sexually transmitted infections. Discuss with your doctor about a barrier method of contraceptive such as condom if you engage in unprotected intercourse. • Depression or mental health disorder;

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. Triphasil is a contraceptive medicine, and it is not for use during pregnancy. Discuss with your doctor when it is appropriate to start using contraceptives after delivery or a miscarriage. Triphasil may decrease breast milk production. A small amount passes into breast milk and may have undesirable effects on a nursing infant. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding. There may be a drug interaction between Triphasil and other drugs such as fezolinetant, ombitasvir/paritaprevir/ritonavir & dasabuvir (DSC) and oral tranexamic acid.
