Finacea Gel (Azelaic Acid) , 15% is a first-line therapy indicated for topical application in the treatment of inflammatory papules and pustules of mild to moderate rosacea.
Finacea Side Effects: Finacea side effects, that may go away during treatment, include burning, stinging, tingling, or itching skin. Rarely, excessive facial hair growth may occur. If any of Finacea side effects continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience Finacea side effects like unusual changes in skin color (hypopigmentation). Those with darker skin may notice Finacea side effects like lightening of their skin. CONTACT YOU DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience Finacea side effects like worsening of cold sores or fever blisters (oral herpes), or a worsening in asthma symptoms (e.g., increased trouble breathing or increased use of quick-relief inhalers). Finacea side effects are unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if Finacea side effects occur. Symptoms of Finacea side effects include rash, persistent itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other Finacea side effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
Finacea Information for Patients:
Patients using this Gel from Canada , 15%, should receive the following Finacea Information and instructions:
Finacea Gel 15%, is to be used only as directed by the physician.
Finacea Gel 15%, is for external use only. It is not to be used orally, intravaginally, or for the eyes.
Cleanse affected area(s) with a very mild soap or a soapless cleansing lotion and pat dry with a soft towel before applying Finacea Gel 15%. Avoid alcoholic cleansers, tinctures and astringents, abrasives and peeling agents.
Avoid contact of Finacea Gel 15%, with the mouth, eyes and other mucous membranes. If it does come in contact with the eyes, wash the eyes with large amounts of water and consult a physician if eye irritation persists.
The hands should be washed following application of Finacea Gel from Canada, 15%.
Cosmetics may be applied after Finacea Gel 15%, has dried.
Skin irritation (e.g., pruritus, burning, or stinging) may occur during use of Finacea Gel 15%, usually during the first few weeks of treatment. If irritation is excessive or persists, use of Finacea Gel 15%, should be discontinued, and patients should consult their physician (see ADVERSE REACTIONS).
Avoid any foods and beverages that might provoke erythema, flushing, and blushing (including spicy food, alcoholic beverages, and thermally hot drinks, including hot coffee and tea).
Patients should report abnormal changes in skin color to their physician.
Avoid the use of occlusive dressings or wrappings.
Application instructions:
The recommended product directions may help you reinforce the importance of correct application to your patients:
Wash face and pat dry twice a day (morning and evening).
Apply a thin layer of FINACEA when the skin is completely dry, and gently but thoroughly massage it into the skin.
Wash hands after each application. Be sure to keep FINACEA away from the mouth, eyes, and other mucous membranes. If it does come in contact with the eyes, wash the eyes with large amounts of water, and consult a physician if eye irritation persists.
Also, be sure to talk to your patients about:
Cleansing agents that might be appropriate for their skin, such as a mild soap or a soap-free cleansing lotion.
The importance of using their medication only as directed, even if they do not "feel it working" or see results right away.
The generic alternative is not manufactured by the company that makes the brand product.
