Trizivir (Abacavir/lamivudine/zidovudine) is a prescription medication used to control the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). This virus causes acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). Trizivir is a combination of abacavir, lamivudine, and zidovudine, which are antiviral medications for preventing the multiplication of HIV in the body. AIDS is the last stage of HIV. HIV damages the immune system and interferes with the body's ability to fight infections and diseases. Trizivir is not a cure for HIV or AIDS, but it can control the infection and prevent disease progression, lowering your chances of getting HIV complications like new infections and cancer. The active ingredients in Trizivir are abacavir, lamivudine, and zidovudine. Abacavir, lamivudine, and zidovudine all belong to a class of drugs called nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs).
