Usage

Remeron (Mirtazapine) is a prescription medication used to treat depression by improving mood and feelings of well-being. Mirtazapine belongs to the group of medications known as tetracyclic antidepressants. This medication works by restoring the balance of certain natural chemicals (neurotransmitters) in the brain. Antidepressants may take 4 to 6 weeks to show the full benefits.

Side Effects

Signs of Remeron allergy: difficulty breathing, hives (rash on your body), swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat—If you experience any of these symptoms, please call 911 or seek emergency medical care at the nearest emergency room (ER).

The common side effects of Remeron include constipation, diarrhea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, increased appetite, and weight gain.

Inform your doctor right away if you have any serious side effects such as:
• Confusion;
• Decreased need for sleep, unusual risk-taking behavior, feelings of extreme happiness or sadness, being more talkative than usual;
• Fast or irregular heartbeat;
• Fainting, severe dizziness;
• Hallucinations;
• Severe muscle stiffness;
• Signs of infection (fever, sore throat);
• Swelling of hands/feet;
• Tremor;
• Unusually pale skin, or tiredness;
• Vision changes such as blurred vision

Warnings and Interactions

You should not take Remeron if you are allergic to Mirtazapine or to any ingredients of this medication. You should not take Remeron if you have taken any MAO inhibitors within the past two weeks. Before you start taking this medication, talk to your doctor about your medical history and if you have had:
• A history or family history of psychiatric disorders (bipolar, manic depression);
• Dehydration;
• Depression, suicidal thoughts or actions;
• Glaucoma;
• Heart disease or stroke;
• High cholesterol or triglyceride levels;
• Kidney or liver disease;
• Low blood pressure;
• Low sodium levels in your blood;
• Seizure

Remeron may cause low blood pressure or a heart rhythm problem called QT prolongation. Check with your doctor immediately if you experience any new or worsening symptoms. This drug may cause dizziness or drowsiness. Alcohol or marijuana can make you more dizzy. Do not drive or perform any activity that requires alertness until you can do it safely. Talk to your doctor about all the medications you take including prescription, OTC, and herbal medications. Also tell them about any vitamins and supplements you take. There may be a drug interaction between Remeron and other medications, especially: buspirone, fentanyl, lithium, MAOIs, St. John's wort, tramadol, triptans, tricyclic antidepressants, tryptophan, and etc. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
