Quinine Sulfate Information:

Quinine may be used to treat conditions as determined by your doctor. Quinine comes in capsules and tablets to take by mouth, and should not be chewed before swallowing because it is very bitter. Quinine should only be taken as prescribed by your doctor. Before taking Quinine you should notify your doctor if you are taking any prescription or non prescription medications, especially acetazolamide, antacids, anticoagulants and vitamins. It is recommended that you do not take any antacid which contains aluminum or sodium bicarbonate without consulting with your doctor. You should also notify your doctor if you have ever had any blood disorders, ringing ears, eye problems, or blackwater fever. Also avoid taking Quinine if you are pregnant or planning on becoming pregnant. “Notice: QUALAQUIN® is the only quinine sulfate product currently approved for sale by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA).”

Quinine Sulfate Side Effects:

Quinine may cause some side effects which may disappear after a few days, such as stomach pains, vomiting, dizziness, headaches, sweating, restlessness, confusion, and apprehension. You should consult your doctor as soon as possible if you experience skin rashes, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, fever, vision problems, difficulty hearing or ringing in the ears, faintness, easy bruising, unusual bleeding, sore throat, fast heartbeat, and chest pains.

The generic alternative is not manufactured by the company that makes the brand product.
